Mobile Hotspot Setup

iPhone

  1. The network name is set by changing the iPhone name. Go to Settings>General>About>Name and set the name to totemupdate
  2. Go to Settings>Personal Hotspot>Enable “Allow Others to Join”
  3. Set the Hotspot Password in your Personal Hotspot to totem1234. Make sure to enable “Maximize Compatibility” so that 2.4GHz is used.

Android

  1. Go to Settings>Connections>Mobile Hotspot and Tethering and turn on Mobile Hotspot
  2. Set the network name to totemupdate, and the password to totem1234. Make sure the Band is set to 2.4GHz (sometimes called Compatibility Mode)

Software Update

  1. With the hotspot set up and the screen unlocked, turn on the Totem Compass by clicking the power button once. Please ensure your Totems are at least 50% charged before beginning the update process.

  2. Ensure your phone is disconnected from WiFi networks and only on cellular networks.

  3. After the initial startup animation, triple click the SOS button to initiate software update

  4. The Totem Compass will restart, and the halo on your Totem will display a searching for HotSpot animation

  5. The Totem will display a white progress bar in the Halo, indicating it is downloading the update.

  6. If the update is successful, the progress ring will fill completely with white light fills and your Totem will restart

▶ Software Update Failure

Your Totem will gracefully exit in the event the software update fails. When the Totem is unable to update:

  1. The outer ring will blink Orange

  2. The software will discard any partially downloaded updates and will reboot using the previous software version

If your Totem fails to update please note it is likely due to:
